What is dual occupancy?

Dual occupancy means two dwellings on one lot. In NSW this usually takes one of two forms: a detached dual occupancy (two separate homes), or a primary home with a secondary dwelling, commonly called a granny flat. The right path depends on your block, your zoning and your goal. The rules and minimum lot sizes vary by council, so the first step is always to check what your site allows.
